Musselburgh

Known as “The Honest Toun”.
The name derives from the words, “Mussel” (as in the shellfish) and “Burgh” (the old English for “town”). A busy seaside suburb, East of Edinburgh in East Lothian, Musselburgh is ever popular for those who crave more of a community dwelling, without having to be too far a commute from the City of Edinburgh. With a long-dated history, being an established town as far back as 1315, Musselburgh is a proud town with everyone you could possibly need on your doorstep.

Location

You’ll find Musselburgh on the Eastern outskirts of Edinburgh – neighbours with Portobello. Easily accessible by many Lothian Bus routes, the Scotrail service between Edinburgh and North Berwick, as well as being just off the A1 or the A199 for a more scenic coastal route.

Musselburgh Racecourse
Firmly established as one of the UK’s most stylish racecourses, offering award-winning facilities in a 5-star visitor attraction located only 6 miles from Edinburgh with excellent transport links and free parking. There’s something for everyone with racing hosted throughout the year from Ladies Day to Family Racedays.

The River Esk
A hub of wildlife, right through the centre of Musselburgh. The River Esk provides an idyllic area for walks and exploring the Scottish wildlife. You’re guaranteed to see a number of swans and ducks, even kingfishers – there has also been report of otters, so keep your eyes peeled!

The Brunton Theatre
Where any event in Musselburgh worth seeing will be happening. Pantomimes at Christmas and concert and theatre all year round.

Places to Eat & Drink

No seaside town would be complete without ice cream and Musselburgh is home to S.Luca ice cream, the most famous (& best!) ice cream in Edinburgh and East Lothian. S.Luca has been in Musselburgh since 1908 and it still has it factory there today. Beside the factory is the S.Luca cafe, serving coffees, lunches and of course ice cream!

A little unassuming from the outside, you’re guaranteed a good meal at Lana Thai, in the middle of Musselburghs High Streets. Their Thai Green Curry is always a winner and they also offer takeaway and delivery.
